I’m Dr Linda Birkin, a self-employed entomologist based in Nottingham, currently using the description of ‘community entomology’ for my work. I want to bring the fascination and fun of bugs to the widest community of people possible – because insects (and other invertebrates) are important, really interesting, and so often overlooked (metaphorically or otherwise).
I give talks on a wide range of entomology-and-associated topics, including: insect introductions and ecology; the importance of invertebrates in wildlife gardening, and how to include them in your plans; what is – and how to get involved with – citizen science; and engagement-style topics like ‘Minibeast Mythbusting’ and the weird, wonderful ways that bugs impact our lives.
I also offer wildlife activity sessions, such as bug hunting, pond dipping and expert guidance for citizen science projects and wildlife gardening. Longer, more in-depth focus on specific types of invertebrate, their ecology and management, I deliver through workshops.
Basically, I know a lot about bugs – and I want to make sure that other folks do too!
(I have split up different types of session onto different pages – if you would like a concise overview of what I currently offer, there’s a full spreadsheet list here.)
